Alice in the Wild West?!

There’s nothing quite like a quick blast of sunshine to get everyone feeling good! People get more productive, there are far more smiles about and more importantly, we can take off that extra pair of socks we’ve been wearing for the past 5 months!

So, Spring looks to be peeking through the clouds, and very soon we’ll be headlong into what we hope will be a glorious Summer! We’re predicting Wild West BBQ’s and Alice in Wonderland Garden Parties will be the trend for Summer 2013 – two very contrasting themes, one rustic and rugged; one elegant and playful – wonder what would happen if they merged - now there’s an idea! Although, Alice in the Wild West may be taking it a bit too far!

We’ve got some great props and entertainment options for both of these themes! For Alice in Wonderland, think; Drink me Bottles, Giant Planters, Grass Seating, and Oversized Hats. We’ve got some great White Rabbit Stilt Walkers, Mad Hatter Look-a-Likes and some marvellous magicians.

Wild West style, our fabulous Can Can Dancers are sure to WOW! Jump aboard the Rodeo Bull or head down to the Saloon Bar Casino for some guaranteed fun! Prop wise, we’ve got some magnificent and completely unique backdrops, a huge Saloon Bar Entrance Way, complete with Swing Doors and tonnes of bunting, whiskey barrels and cacti all ready to add to your Wild West event!

Parisian Elegance!

Wowza…who would have thought it would still be snowing! We’ve been hit heavy this morning in Sheffield and it’s not showing any signs of stopping! A Winter Wonderland is upon us – it’s meant to be spring!!

Ok, so while we shiver over our desks, wrapped around heaters we all need to think warm thoughts, so this weeks’ blog is all about the fiery, insatiable ‘Parisian Burlesque’; A theme that comes and goes and dips in and out of fashion! Well this month its back and we are sending out ideas left right and centre. 

The famous tourist spot in Paris (and we all know where we’re talking about) is famed for its wonderful performers and lavish dressing, so we do our best to recreate the atmosphere and ambience at different events, parties and launches all over the UK.  From the loud, vivacious Ring Master to our gorgeous Feather Showgirls and Can Can Dancers, weird and wonderful Contortionists to Snake Charmers and Stilt Walkers – there is definitely something for everyone!

We have a whole host of fantastic theming and props, including our HUGE Eiffel Tower and matching illuminated Windmill.  The Eiffel Tower is soooo large, it needs its own van for transport – don’t worry though, it’s actually only 3.5m tall so does fit into most venues!  We have metres and metres of Red Draping, to transform any function space, or block off certain areas to create an intimate atmosphere.  Lighting is also key for this (and most other) theme(s); a wash of red lighting makes for a great base to build your event on.

We have ‘email-able’ brochures for each of our super themes which contain pictures and guide prices of our range of theming and entertainment. Alice meets James Bond!

We’ve certainly hit off March with a great big bang and had some amazing feedback to go with the fabulous events we’ve been part of! We had a varied bunch of themes all going out over the first weekend in March, everything from the quirky Alice in Wonderland to the exquisite Masquerade Ball and of course, what weekend would be complete without the ever popular James Bond theme!

Our performers were in full swing down in Cardiff entertaining at a beautiful Masquerade Ball themed event.  These Stilt Walkers are among our absolute favourites and are extremely popular for all sorts of events.

The guys were also promoting a home show launch up in Newcastle.  Alice and her Bouncing Bunnies were present, creating a real buzz about the place and entertaining from afar! Did you see them on Saturday in the North East?!  Alice in Wonderland has to be one of our favourite themes here at SCP and theres certainly been some interest over the past few weeks - customers are keen to dec out their event in a Tea Party style with our quirky over-sized props, lighting effects and cool seating. A great theme for all those summer balls and parties!

The prize for the most last minute event goes to the 007themed event we provided props for on Saturday.  A call at 4pm on Friday afternoon saw the plans for the weekend get completely thrown up in the air and some serious re-juggling was required!  The team left bright and early with a van full of 007 Silhouette Panels, Backdrops and Lighting, ready to dress The Grand Hotel on Brighton’s seafront and add some of that 007 glamour the client craved!

Props go to Hollywood!

There has been heaps going on at SCP HQ over the last couple of weeks!  Rather excitingly, last week we sent off some of our props down to Pinewood Studios. The drop team were completely star struck as they drove past Danny Boyles’ private parking space, the Skyfall stage and the underwater arena used for many a famous film shoot! The props we delivered were our two huge Circus Cannons which were designed and built for a run of Christmas Parties over December 2012.  They are away for a month long hire for filming, and will make their film debut in early 2014! Can’t say much more than that at the moment, but keep your peepers peeled for snippets of gossip on this exciting project!

This weekend just gone, we’ve been glamming it up for a regular client and their annual works party. In recent years they’ve had Hollywood and Wild West as their theme but this year, as it was their 60^th anniversary, they wanted more of a glitzy feel with lots of entertainment – cue, Steel City Promotions! Lots of lighting brought the venue to life and our illuminated features, in poseur tables and light pillars, created even more ambience.  Entertainment wise, we brought in the ever popular Spoof Paparazzi and had Mikey spinning his fire! Guests could gamble their way through the evening on the Casino Tables or bring out their inner child on the Giant Scalextric Track!  The room looked fantastic from all angles and everyone was able to dance the night away on our beautiful white Starlit Dance Floor!

After a measly few hours’ sleep on Saturday night, we were on the road again, early doors on Sunday morning ready to install a Catwalk rig for a fashion show.  The Moulin Rouge themed catwalk really added a glam element and a real pop of colour to the day!

Next week we have two ‘Space’ themed events down in Surrey – a twist on ‘Space’ using lots of lights and star cloth backdrops is how we are playing it –check back soon for information on this one!

Themed Room Dressing and Entertainment....

What a January!! Hollywood, Bonds, more Bonds, more Hollywood and a Roaring 1920’s thrown in to the mix! So, let me tell you about a great job we did last weekend for the Army Boys of Warminster…

An early start (knee deep in snow), an extremely full van and three eager guys headed off on the 5 hour trek to the South! After attending a site visit for this event before Christmas, we had a jolly good idea of what was needed to transform an everyday mess room into a glamorous James Bond extravaganza! We packed heaps of star cloth and lighting; we had gorgeous linen and themed table centres; and we had an abundance of great entertainment (although the show girls didn’t come on the back of the van – that would be weird!)

We went back to clear away at 7am on the Sunday morning as it was due to be a rather late finish to be greeted by a couple of hard-core party goers still at it!

So this weekend sees us back in the Wild West – a great theme that has been shelved for a while! There is definitely a trending element to the events world…last year we were all about the 007 (and its set to continue by the looks of it!) and this year is looking big for the fabulous Masquerade Ball! As things change, we’ll keep you updated on what’s popular and what’s up and coming!

A Night in Hollywood!

With this years’ Awards Season fast approaching and sure to be a rather glamorous – we’re all wishing the January blues away and praying for an excuse to play dress up! So, how about hosting your very own Hollywood themed event complete with super props, theming and entertainment!

We have a large range of in house services perfect for small and large scale events – everything from our fantastic Film Strip Silhouette Panels and Giant ‘Hollywood’ Letters to our rather striking Living Statues – guaranteed to cause a stir and a brilliant photo opportunity! Starting with the basics though, and an initial starting point for any event – have a look at your venue…what does it need! Lighting, Linen and Table Centres are great ‘neutralisers’, transforming the barest of venues into swanky feeling spaces. We have scores of lighting in house which really do create a magical atmosphere and ambience – start with this, and you’ve cracked it! Adding in props and dressing afterwards then enhances the theme and really brings it to life!

Christmas Sparkle at SCP!

Well…..firstly, apologies for the lack of blogging lately but we have been up to our eyeballs in Christmas sparkle here at SCP.  Let me start by telling you all about the fantastic Bollywood event we did back in November (goodness, that seems like forever ago!!!).  This theme is simply stunning – we’re talking lavish draping, over the top gilded props, scores and scores of lighting and beautifully decorated tables and chairs.  The venue we were dressing had a fantastic 30m long corridor that was ours for the decorating – we jumped straight on this using six separate draped entrances, placed right the way down to the main dining room.  With a base colour of red, each drape then had its own colour twist to add Bollywood glamour; purples, pinks, oranges and blues.  We enhanced the drapes with fiery flames, extravagant golden palm trees and one or two variety of elephant!  Purple and gold linen transformed the main room, accompanied by a wash of red light over the walls of the dining room and flickering table lanterns finished it off beautifully! Of course, what Bollywood event would be complete without Bollywood Dancers and Dohl Drummers? This was a fantastic event and we all hope there are more Bollywood themed events to come in 2013!

Two days after Bollywood…December hit with a bang! Swap Bollywood for Hollywood and this is how we began…..

We took our brand new Film Reel backdrops amongst many other props, theming and centrepieces and transformed a Reading venue into a Night in Hollywood!  The following week, was pretty much the same set up, in Kettering this time; a change in table centre, from Illuminated Martini Glasses to Frosted Domes and a few extra backdrops, saw this Hollywood themed Christmas Party swing from the rafters!

We have some fantastic new Circus Cannons which took pride of place at Ice Sheffield last week for their run of Christmas shows.  These, alongside traditional ticket booths, candy floss stalls, red and yellow ‘big top’ drapes and our plinthed Circus elephant looked great!  This last weekend has seen a real variety of themes, more Hollywood, a bit of classic Winter Wonderland, Circus Circus, Roaring 1920's and of course, we couldn’t get through December without mentioning the ever popular 007 theme!  On the run up to Christmas eve, we have a couple of events left…so we’re out to impress with more Winter theming, linen and table dressing.
