Themed Events Galore

So after a very busy first week of December here there and everywhere, the second week and into the third was set to be even busier with a mass of themed events mainly in the South of England. 

We packed up the vans on Wednesday morning and set off super early so we could be at Sandown Park Racecourse and begin to get the room ready for an afternoon Christmas Party, Vegas style.  They didn't want lots of over the top props as there wasn't a great deal of space once the 300 guests were to be seated.  300 guests meant 300 chair covers and bows....phew!! Alongside the linen, we put in our fabulous Martini Glass table centres, complete with red feather boa (looks great for Moulin Rouge too!), casino tables and lined the room in black star cloth.  It looked brilliant (and very festive!)

On Thursday we were back in the South, in Buckinghamshire, with a 'Strictly Christmas' themed party.  Our brand new mirror ball table centres made their first appearance and wowed the second they came out of their boxes! Scattering light all round the room and a perfect compliment to the black and silver linen the table centres made for a very glitzty affair!  We uplit the main room and fairy lights were attached to the rafters.  Our giant glitter ball prop was a great photo opportunity and the night went very well indeed!

Friday was back to Winter Wonderland in Central London, with 280 white and silver chair covers, fabulous table centres and lighting effects to dazzle. Our grand Ice Palace stood pride of place on the stage and the DJ rocked the music, having guests up dancing all night long.

Slotted in amongst these large themed events, we have been croupiering our little socks off with casinos in Hull, Sheffield, London, Manchester and Birmingham to name a few!

Lots to talk about...........

It's been a while since we updated all you lovely people on the happenings at Steel City Promotions so here's an overview of the last two weeks.

The first weekend in December saw us take some casino tables and some Las Vegas theming to a bar in Sheffield for an exclusive Christmas Party for Sky.  We rounded up our Feather Showgirls for the meet and greet and kicked off December with a bang!  Over the weekend we also had a Masquerade Ball complete with Stilt Walkers and a 007 themed party in Lincoln along with several smaller Casino events which always go down well.

Later on in the week and into the weekend just gone, we have been up in Glasgow (and almost got blown away in the 'Hurricane' that hit) with our fantastic Pirate theming. Large Parrots, Hanging Pirates, Chests filled with treasure for the table centres and a rather fitting Beach Hut were among the many props that filled the two large vans that were needed for the event.  We also had a team of three head off to London for two days to complete four events from Wild West to Hollywood and everything in between.  

A large annual casino for Wilkinsons was a huge success and a Moulin Rouge themed casino complete with Showgirls wowed at Manchester Central.  

Our Ice Palace made its second appearance this weekend down in Daventry and the client was over the moon with how the room looked.  A team were also in Colchester with a Fire and Ice theme for the military Christmas party which was a great success.

Many an event complete, lots more work to do.  Hannah is currently finishing off the bases for our Mirror Ball Table Centres, Matt is sorting out the Warehouse and we're all prepping for the week ahead's events.  We're down south from Wednesday to Friday doing a Las Vegas event in Surrey, a Strictly themed event in Buckinghamshire and a Winter Wonderland in London.  It's al go go go with many a casino thrown in the mix between now and Saturday.

A Winter Wonderland in Colchester

After weeks of working in the cold warehouse, painting, fixing and glueing, all that remained was to add the final touches to our fabulous Ice Palace Entrance Arch....glitter, glitter, more glitter and glittery snow (in other words...the fun bit!)

At long last, it was ready and it went out for it's first showing last weekend.  The Army boys of Colchester were having their annual Christmas bash, Winter Wonderland was the theme and Steel City Promotions, the magic makers!  The equipment for the event only just fit in the van after much manouvering (and expert van packing skills) and the guys were off!  Andy, Sam and Krissie were tasked with the job of making everything look great and creating a real WOW factor in the Officers Mess. 

Sam is our official Lighting Technician, always on hand to transform a drab function room! Andy was our Event Manager, ensuring everything went to plan and Krissie was the Artistic Director ensuring all the tables were looking magnificent with White Table Cloths and Chair Covers, Silver Sashes and Bows and our fantastic Illuminated Frosted Dome Table Centre Pieces.

Our huge Stalagmite props really added impact to the Ice Palace Entrance, and clever lighting gave the room an eerily cool feeling.  And of course, what Winter Wonderland themed event wouldn't be complete without the Illuminated Ice Cube Seating and Poseur Tables?

And the award for the last minute month of 2011 goes to.........

.......November!  All year, November has been looking pretty quiet which we've been looking forward to - time to prepare for the December rush and build all the lovely new props for our fabulous events that are coming up.  Instead this month has gone crazy for promotional staff, games hire and Winter Wonderland theming and its all been last minute! We're loving it!

So after 2 weeks of Klick Fitness promotion and some ice breakers in Manchester, this week will see us at the Silverstone Circuit for two days for some corporate entertainment, over at the NEC in Birmingham for a further two days for a promotional exhibition and attending a small wedding with some Casino Tables in Lancashire.  We're about to hit December head on and we're absolutely raring to go!

On the to do list for the next couple of weeks are; finishing the pirate set, customising our mirror ball table centres, create our magnificent illuminated city scape backdrop and launder many, many, many, chair covers and table cloths.  The list is endless at HQ.  Have we got you on the edge of your seat for fabulous photos yet? Klick Fitness Promotion.

Last week saw Steel City Promotions undertake a promotion for Klick Fitness; a new gym brand under the Fitness First umbrella.  We sent off Hannah and Grace up to Wakefield for the first part of the week and then Rachel replaced Hannah on Friday and Saturday. The girls were given a promo car and a brief that was to raise as much awareness about the new gym in the surrounding areas as possible.  They gave out endless goody bags that contained mini handwarmers and plenty of literature about the new gym.

For this promotion we were just asked to provide appropriate staff to match the brief, however quite often we are asked to take care of the whole promotion.  Branding, staffing, design and promotion management are all part of the service.  From product launches to roadshows and everything in between.

Our girls, Ellie and Marrie are in Stoke this week for their opening of Klick Fitness.  The same process will apply, lets just hope the weather stays fine!

Casual Staff Needed.....

This week we have been plotting....Ice Palaces', Pirates and Las Vegas!

The designs are well and truly under way for our Ice Palace Entrance.  Snowdrifts, lighting effects, icicles and sparkle are all elements that will add glitz and magic to our Winter Wonderland.  We have metres and metres of soft white carpet to purchase, magical Stilt-Walking Ice Pixies to awaken and snow and ice to keep frozen!

We also have more Pirate theming to design and make, more glamorous Vegas props to add to the collection and even more ostrich feathers to pluck (only kidding - buy!) for our white feather plume table centre pieces. If only Santa Claus and his elves were free to help out at Steel City this Christmas!!

TIGI Hair Care Product Launch!

What other way to launch a candy inspired new product than to transform your sales meeting into a Willy Wonka candy heaven.  This is just what TIGI Hair Care had in mind when they came with us their brief.  Their main aim was to create a buzz and get their sales team excited about the new product.

Held in the stunning Cafe de Paris in Central London, we transformed the venue with our giant candy canes, giant liquorice allsorts and giant lollipops.  We brought our Oompa Loompas along and created rather stylish fish bowls filled with endless sweets and treats. 

Our newest addition to the prop room are our fantastic liquorice allsorts - think bright, funky and eye catching (it's just a shame they're not edible!!)

Other recent event news is our brand spanking new Pirate theme - we took a hint of it to Plymouth last weekend, creating a boat themed entrance, and hanging our rather sinister pirate from their stage set.  We have a large Pirate themed event coming up at Christmas so this was a good test run for that.

A Winter Wonderland......

Winter Wonderland I hear you say!!!! But it's only October........

For several months now we have been quoting for and preparing our Winter Wonderland theming for the run of Christmas parties in December, the most popular theme by far at this time of the year.  We have some great new and innovative ideas to make the theme new, fresh and utterly gorgeous!  

For the last few months we have been expanding our range of illuminated furniture and feature pieces which has paid off massively as they are perfect in every way for this theme.  Striking tubes of blue light, bright and icy poseur tables and ice cube seating are amongst the props we have on offer.  Clusters of large stalagmites, walls of ice effect backdrops and lots and lots of room lighting.  Our fabulous Ice Palace Entrance will also be making it's very first appearance in a few weeks time.

We work with some stunning Ice Pixies too, which really enhance the theme creating magic and wonder throughout the venue.

Bringing Las Vegas to Sheffield......

Since our Lanuch event we have been very busy producing outstanding events for a range of companies and private parties.  September really has been a busy month and October is already flowing nicely!

We took 007 to Southampton recently for a glamourous ball for 500 guests and created a Wonderland for Alice in Nottingham.  Last weekend we brought Las Vegas to Sheffield after one of our bride and grooms wanted a themed after party following their wedding in Vegas and this weekend its all about Willy Wonka again....we're currently building some giant Liquorice Allsorts!! Pictures to follow!!

A small but fabulous casino evening at Aston Hotel in Sheffield last night along with a 21st birthday party in the city centre kept us busy until the wee hours.

Pirates of the Caribbean is the main focus next week, complete with hanging pirates, old rowing boats and canons.  Ahoy there!!!

A Successful Night!

Well, after much planning, preparation and nervous waiting, our showcase event is now over! And what a fantastic night it was too!! We had a great turnout, the band were brilliant and the cocktails went down a storm!

The main idea was to showcase our theming, room dressing and entertainment options to new and existing clients and suppliers.  It was a great opportunity to network with new people and show our current audience the new things we have on offer, such as our illuminated furniture and fancy new table centres.

Tom, our wonderful magician was on hand to amaze and entertain, we had our gorgeous croupiers at the Roulette and Black Jack tables and what event wouldn't be complete without a glass of fizz and some canapes?

The question is...should we make this a regular thing?  Everyone seems to think so! An networking evening for event suppliers and event buyers with a twist - it feels like a party!

So, onto this weekend...we have a large 007 themed event complete with Golden Guns, six Casino Tables, and all the extra room dressing you can imagine in Southampton.  A 40th birthday party in Leeds and some more 007 theming in Skipton! No rest for the wicked!

September has arrived!!!!!!

Wow!!!! What a start to September!!  There are a few tired heads in the office today after a very busy weekend of events.

Amongst the many wedding guests we have entertained we have also provided performers, DJ's and room dressing for a Festival themed event in Manchester and some illuminated room dressing for a huge 21st birthday party in Hull.

The brief for the 21st was a 'Night Club' atomosphere with a chill out area.  Great, we thought! A perfect opportunity to bring out our Illuminated Poseur Tables, Light Pillars, Cube Seating and Table Centres.  We dressed the back of the stage with a Star Cloth and Uplighters and placed 2 light pillars either side of our Black and White Dancefloor.  The colour scheme we went with was royal blue, so we used this in the linen, table centres, light pillars and cube seating.  We contrasted this with pink poseur tables in and around the bar area. 

Britains Got Talent's Michael Jackson tribute 'Signature' performed throughout dinner and the guests were up dancing until the wee small hours to a great girl band and a fabulous DJ. 

The week ahead presents a Hollywood themed wedding in Sheffield and a huge afternoon conference and evening awards ceremony in Manchester, complete with bespoke table centres.

Themed Weddings!

We have lots of work to do in order to make our showroom look WOW for our showcase event.  We're having a change around as we speak and adding more bits and bobs to it. We need to make room for our fantastic band that are coming along and also our cocktail flarers!  We'd better put some seating in there too...how about some grass seating to fit with Alice in Wonderland? Oh go on then!!!

There are lots of events in between now and then....last weekend we did a small charity casino in Nottingham which went down a storm and a 007 themed party in Yorkshire.  This weekend we are casino's galore, in Doncaster, Nottingham and Skipton.  Once September arrives we have lots of big projects in the pipeline such as a large scale conference and evening awards ceremony in Manchester and a large Hollywood themed wedding in Sheffield.  

We're thinking themed weddings are the way forward...everyone is looking for something bigger, better and completely different.  Evening entertainment is so important for a lot of people and sometimes a DJ or a live band just isn't quite enough.  We're always entertaining with our casino tables but now lots more bride and grooms are after 007, Hollywood and even Willy Wonka theming to add to their day and evening - watch this space for photos and updates!!!

September Action

Well, for all you lovely people out there, its August and you don't want to be thinking about anything other than August and what is left of the 'summer' (although maybe you're all looking forward to September and the hopes of an indian summer?!!).  Here at Steel City HQ there is no rest for the wicked and we are busy planning for the next few months ahead.  September is a fabulous month, full of gorgeous weddings, big corporate conferences, evening awards ceremonies and not forgetting our very own launch event! Phew!! It will be Christmas before we know it! I know, I know....don't say it!!! (Mind you, I did catch my first glimpse of Christmas Decorations this week!!!)

We are also plotting our stand for Doncaster Racecourse Wedding Exibition too.  Something different is what every bride and groom wants so something different is what we will have on offer.  Look out for us there on 18th September (you won't be able to miss us!!!)

Launch Event

As over the summer is mainly weekend weddings, we have had plenty of time to set the wheels in motion for our fabulous client launch in September.  Set in our showroom, amongst the many weird and wonderful props we will have an accoustic musician, some cocktail jugglers and open up our fun casino for our clients.  Enjoy a glass of fizz and some nibbles and have a wander around the new, exciting and fresh ideas we have on offer.  Our Oompa Loompa's will be on hand to answer any questions and give the guided tour.

Working in partnership with Double 7 Events, a supplier of all sorts of great party bands and live musicians we are sure to have the perfect solution to any event.  We've even got a great prize on offer for one lucky guest!

As well as this we will also be showcasing our Willy Wonka and themed wedding ideas at Doncaster Races Wedding Exhibition on 18th September - It's exciting stuff!

Sugar and spice and all things nice!

Our brand new lollipops made their first appearance at the weekend for a Willy Wonka birthday party. Positioned either side of a delicious chocolate fountain, it was tricky to know which treats were edible and which were not! 

We invited our fabulous Parma Violet meet and greet girl, loaded up her tray with edible goodies and sent her off into the crowds of hungry guests; jelly babies and liquorice whips, lollipops and cholcolate limes were on offer amongst the many other treats, and that was before they even entered the room and spotted the chocolate fountain.

As for the Oompa Loompas - well they were given a well deserved weekend off, after all who else do you think had been working all week to perfect the Lollipops!?

Small and Sophisticated!

Weddings and private parties are what has been happening at SCP HQ this week.  A Hollywood themed 60th Birthday Party in Leeds was the focus of attention, with Fabulous Feather Showgirls, a Ratpack themed band and of course our deluxe fun casino and Hollywood props.  A spin of the Roulette wheel and a shuffle of the cards in Sheffield and North Yorkshire made two of our newlyweds very happy indeed.  An end to a hectic weekend leading into an even more hectic week. 

A small midweek corporate casino went down a treat for a well known bank.  A Red Carpet Entrance and a room filled with uplighters gave a warm feeling to the room and the small party loved every minute - it got rather competitive at one stage!

So, a few more weddings this weekend and a Willy Wonka party on Saturday should round the week off rather nicely.

Weddings and Willy Wonka!!

Amongst the many weddings this month, a lot of enquiries are coming in for Willy Wonka Themed Events which we just love!!! Our Willy Wonka Gates are the ultimate in entrance ways as your guests stride, skip, hop and jump along the purple carpet and into the magical world of candy and chocolate! We are currently expanding our range of Wonka props, updating our giant 7ft tall lollipops and candy canes and developing some giant pink and white 'flumps'.  Our toadstool seating and giant wonka bars are also fantastic!  We are doing a Willy Wonka 21st/graduation party next week so keep an eye out for pictures of the new props! Back for more.......

After a busy few weeks and long long days, we are finally catching up in the office.  Our showroom has been completely pulled apart over the last month, so now is the time to re-build and get it looking ship shape again!

We've brought Masquerade and Hollywood to life in the South of England, Red Carpet and Table Centres in Leicester and we were back in Guernsey last week for more 007.  Las Vegas style weddings at the weekend and lots more events to come this week.

We've used a lot of performers recently, in the form of Spoof Paparazzi, 007 Stunt Team, Feather Showgirls and Living Statues.  They complement our themes beautifully and add an extra depth to any event.

Caught up and planning the next one.....

Well, after an exciting trip away to Guernsey last weekend to style a rather swanky venue, we are now back, caught up and ready for the next one!

'The Venue' in Guernsey, a small, classy room with beautiful views over the sea was perfect for our 007 themed birthday party.  The birthday girl celebrated in style with a cocktail reception and canapes.  Casino Tables, Illuminated Poseur Tables, 007 Silhouette Panels and our fabulous new Light Pillars really complimented the venue and created a fantastic atmosphere. 

We're back off to Guernsey in 3 weeks time (lets hope we don't take the cold, miserable weather with us again this time!!)

So, on to the next.....we are currently busying ourselves with Moulin Rouge and Masquerade Ball projects for next week.  Our workshop guys are hurriedly putting the finishing touches to our new and improved Moulin Rouge Windmill and the creative team in the office (me!) are putting together some rather snazzy Masquerade Table Centres.  It's all go, go, go and we are having a ball!!

We're off to Guernsey......

So after a rather hectic few days last weekend we are now preparing for the off as Guernsey beckons!  We'll pack the van full of our 007 theming and head off on the 5 hour drive to Weymouth before boarding the ferry and heading out to the Channel Islands. 

Heading out on Friday and returning on Sunday, here's hoping the weather stays nice for our little jaunt to Guernsey.  Ooooh Mr Bond...Don't mind if we do!

We have two other small events also on this fine bank holiday weekend which we will be leaving in the  capable hands of one of our event managers.  Wedding season is officially upon us!!

A busy few weeks ahead....

It seems Saturday 21st May is the day when everybody wants a piece of Steel City. A couple of small weddings, an awards dinner, a swanky James Bond party and a Wild West Extravaganza! All in between a conference set on the 20th, a Black and White Ball on the 24th, then off to Guernsey for more 007 on the 27th. Wowee! Busy, busy, busy!

Steel City Promotions and Mr Bond

Suave, Sophisticated and gadgets galore.  Our Secret Agent theme has come back with a vengance.  Every second enquiry this week and last has been about James Bond and we love it! From Silhouette Panels, sporting Odd Job and Sean Connery to our amazing backlit backdrop, a perfect photo opportunity.

A busy week for Steel City

So, last week saw us make the long and rather sweaty journey to London to look around the stands at RSVP at the Business Design Studio.  This year we were just looking around, hoping to get some ideas and perhaps exhibit next year.  We got some fabulous ideas for our current events and inklings of thoughts for new ones.  How about adding an incredible ice cream bar to your Willy Wonka extravaganza or why not invite the Mad Hatter himself along to your Alice in Wonderland tea party?

RSVP wasn't the only task of the week, no rest for the wicked over the Easter weekend! Two events back to back and straight into giving our new events that extra va va voom!

Steel City Promotions and Alice in Wonderland

Planning new events is always great fun, drawing inspiration from people around us and generally thinking up wild and wacky ideas.

Alice in Wonderland definitely had our minds working overtime.  There are so many elements to this theme including, White Rabbits and stunning props and backdrops all set in an enchanted forest.  The Mad Hatters tea party is the perfect setting for this theme so what better way to replicate this than by having giant cups and saucers, huge slices of cake and some completely unique illuminated mad hatters hat table centres.....these were a genious idea and look AMAZING!

Conference and Awards Ceremony

Last week saw Steel City Promotions produce a full conference set for one of the big health care companies in Sheffield. Held at the Copthorne Hotel, we designed and produced a fantastic bespoke conference set custom built and complete with audio visual and subtle lighting effects. A team building exercise took place in the afternoon allowing for the clients to relax. The room was then transformed into a swanky evening awards ceremony, with flame effect lighting either side of the striking red carpet entrance, our new fabulous illuminated table centres and beautiful chair covers and table linen . There was an illuminated mobile bar for added effect and included our stunning star cloth backdrop to give extra atmosphere. Once the awards were over, our 5 piece band struck up their first notes, and brought the evening to a close.
