A day in the life of a film star.....

Steel City Promotions had an exciting day yesterday working in the world of film and television, supplying props for a new series of adverts! One side of the promotional activities we can offer.

Many hours were spent getting the angle of the shots ‘just right’ and the heat in the studio was intense, but the end result looks fab!  Coming soon to a TV near you!

This week we are off to London Town to entertain and venue dress Alice in Wonderland styleee…here’s a sneak peek of our new Mad Hatter’s Hat prop – pictures of the prop in action in next weeks’ edition!

The Fab Five.....

It happens once in a blue moon but this weekend just gone was completely free of events and it couldn’t have been timed better – beautiful and sunny and very chilled out! We managed to recharge our batteries and now it’s back to the grind…lots of props to design and build!

Although the sunny weather is looking like it’s here to stay (fingers crossed), the Christmas enquiries are coming in thick and fast – December is looking busy already (and I thought  we’d only just come out the other side of it!!).  We, at SCP thought we would give you an insight into our most popular Christmas themes, so here it is, the top 5;

Winter Wonderland

Immerse yourself into a world winter…ice blues and frosty whites.  Our fabulous room décor and stunning lighting will really transform any venue into your very own Winter Wonderland.  From our giant Ice Palace entrance way and snowy white carpet runner, to large Stalagmites and Snow Drifts, Aptly named Frosted Dome centrepieces and beautiful white and silver linen – this theme is stunning from any angle and perfect for any event.

Willy Wonka

A definite step away from the classic Winter Wonderland, but extremely popular at Christmas due to the candy theme.  Giant sweets, bright coloured prop, stunning backdrops and of course plenty of candy to nibble at; this theme really does go down a treat for all sorts of events.  Interaction with Oompa Loompas or indeed our beautiful Candy Girls creates an extra dimension to this theme and will have guests talking for an age!

Secret Agent

If it’s a suave and sophisticated party you are hoping to have, then look no further; our 007 theme is perfect! Glam up your entrance with our twist on traditional and have our Black and Gold Carpet Walkway complete with VIP accessories.  Glamorous Bond girls will treat your guests to champagne (or Martini; shaken, not stirred) on arrival, ensuring the night begins with a bang. 

Classic Christmas

Dickensian street scenes, snow topped lampposts and Christmas trees galore.  Our traditional Christmas theme is sure to get everyone in the spirit right from the start.  Giant baubles and presents and holly and ivy everywhere – a real Christmas treat, ahead of the man himself on Christmas day.

Hollywood Glamour

Again, another glamorous theme, but ever so popular during the festive season! Red Carpets, Spoof Paparazzi, Gorgeous Linen and Table Centres and subtle theming really do bring this theme to life.  Cocktail dresses and tuxedos at the ready – Marilyn Monroe and Johnny Depp are waiting!

Of course, you can choose any theme you like – it’s your Christmas party after all.  Last year, a client went all out and had a ‘Strictly Christmas’ theme – oh yes, think Strictly Come Dancing / Christmas and you’re there!! Black and Silver, Mirror Balls and Fairy Lights – glitz and glamour all the way!  Go as mad as you like with one of our other 18 themes;

Showcase Excitement!

What a lovely evening we all had here last night!!! A fun filled (very hot!) networking and showcase event right in the heart of theming land...SCP HQ! It took a good few days to make everything look fabulous, disguising the warehouse to make it look less, well…’warehousy’.  We built our Beach Hut (mainly used for Pirates and Caribbean themed parties) outside the front door to draw guests in and make them feel immediately welcomed. This created a bit of a stir among the industrial estate folk during the build…lots of funny looks of confusion!!! From there, guests were transformed into the Wild West and then back in time to 1950’s Hollywood.  Here they stopped to ‘chill’ (no literally…the coldest part of our warehouse is downstairs) and be greeted by some smiley faces and a glass of fizz! Moving on through Las Vegas central and onto Paris and the Moulin Rouge (with a quick stop off at the Circus on the way!), this then led upstairs to our day to day showroom which was transformed with many more props and where the entertainment for the night was taking place.  We had our house band who attended last year too…they are fabulous and brought the house down with great music all evening.  We also had our unique blast from a Brass band, who focused their attention on our 007 theme.  They were described by many guests as ‘Dramatic’ and the ‘Surprise of the Night!’ – Great stuff!!!

Our main man and mixologist Sam kept everyone topped up with cold drinks and showed off his flaring skills throughout the night.  A strange mix of cocktails was on offer, each a delight in itself (even the one that contained vinegar!!) YUM! 

Most days at work at SCP, we freeze our little socks off…the warehouse is always chilly as is the showroom so we told all of our guests to wrap up warm and to dress appropriately for the Showcase….never has it been so hot!!!!! Although we’re definitely not complaining…long may it last!!!

Larger than life!

This week has gone crazy at SCP HQ - many events and many enquiries, mainly for the wacky Willy Wonka theming! And who doesn't love this theme? We have hundreds of ideas and almost as many props to bring ideas and venues to life! Our magnificent Liquorice Allsorts that stand up to 4ft Tall are a showstopper in themselves, and our colourful 7ft Tall Lollipops act as a great alternative entrance to our Purple Gates. We often put in our funky illuminated furniture for this theme...creating light, colour and a whole different dimension. Our illuminated Poseur Tables work very well, especially by adding a sweet filled fishbowl on the top! We've actually just landed back from the Cash & Carry, and brought back the sweets for the fishbowls for Tuesday Night's showcase (see what you're missing out on.....;-)!)
So, whether you prefer the latest, modern version with a bit of Johnny Depp or the old classic that oozes imagination - we have the props, lighting and all things Chocolate Factory to hand!

Another popular theme at the moment is 007…we’re on it with this one; suave and sophisticated, entertaining and glamorous! We did a 007 themed party last weekend for a corporate party which went down a treat and Mr Bond is making an appearance several times over the next few weeks!  Of course this influx of 007 is due to the new film being released in October and the 50^th Anniversary!

Glamorous Events and Showcase Preparations!

A diverse weekend has been and gone; the biggest one being a rather grand Charity Hollywood theme night hosted by Rick Wakeman.  Set in a very glitzy restaurant in Bawtry, South Yorkshire, we added to the glamour by donating our striking Silhouette Panels, Award Statues and Lighting Effects.  Our Giant Hollywood Letters looked stunning placed outside, creating a great feature as guests arrived.  They worked the Red Carpet before indulging in a welcome drink or two, in preparation for the auction and nights festivities.   

We also provided some swanky 007 room dressing for a corporate bash in Birmingham.  The Silhouette Panels made their second appearance of the weekend, this time in the form of Jaws, Odd Job and Sean Connery! Some subtle room lighting transformed the marquee and created a great ambience!





Tip of the Day;

Lighting is very much underrated and seen as an added expense…we here at SCP HQ disagree completely...it can alter the mood of any event! A few feature props, some gorgeous linen, stand-out table centres and some fantastic lighting have seen some of the best events unfold! Speaking of table centres, we were in Manchester last week with our Funky Frosted Domes, teamed against Black and Gold Linen.  A great example of simple yet sophisticated!

This week is all about Proms and Weddings and final preparations for our Event Showcase next week!  It’s all go go go!!

Sheffield Event Showcase @ Steel City Promotions!

Hold on to your hats people!! In 19 days’ time we will open our doors to venues, clients and event companies alike. Sheffield Event Showcase @ Steel City Promotions is a great opportunity to see a whole host of things we have on offer in an event format. Prepare to enjoy a Live Band or two, our fantastic Magician, fabulous Performers and amazing Cocktail Jugglers. We'll treat our guests to canapés and a glass or two of fizz whilst they mingle around our fantastic Props and Room Dressing options.
Following on from the success of last year’s Showcase Event, we are extremely excited and can't wait to show you all what we have on offer!  This is networking on a whole different scale…

A small update on recent events too; On Tuesday evening of this week we entertained the Law Society of Sheffield University with our Gorgeous Masquerade Stilt Walkers and our Stunning Bubble Sphere Contortionist.  Nothing quite like something completely unique to amaze and excite!

End of Season Awards!

Sheffield United's End of Season Awards was this weekend - our role; Room Dressing and Table Centres! The team headed off down to Bramall Lane with a van full of goodies, the sole aim to impress, dazzle and excite!  Red (well it certainly wouldn't be blue!!) was the colour throughout the event, from red uplighters to red led's highlighting our fabulous Mirror Ball Table Centres.  White linen softened the Platinum Suite and created a welcoming atmosphere for the 300 guests and our Black and White Dance Floor created the perfect platform for dancing the night away!

Our Mirror Ball Table Centres also made an appearance at Sheffield City Hall for a corporate Dinner Dance - these looked lovely in the rustic Ballroom, scattering light all around the room! A popular choice for any event!

On another note, we attended a rather swanky 18th Birthday Party in Hull on Saturday...a stunning marquee set the scene and black star cloth created the atmosphere.  Goldfinger and the Bond Girls mingled with the guests and we entertained with our Casino Tables (they always go down a treat!).  

This week, the plans are in full swing for our Showcase event in three weeks time - 22nd May 2012, a date to add to your diary! There will be cocktail jugglers, live music, magic and lots more to keep you entertained and supply fresh ideas for upcoming events.
