Christmas Sparkle at SCP!

Well…..firstly, apologies for the lack of blogging lately but we have been up to our eyeballs in Christmas sparkle here at SCP.  Let me start by telling you all about the fantastic Bollywood event we did back in November (goodness, that seems like forever ago!!!).  This theme is simply stunning – we’re talking lavish draping, over the top gilded props, scores and scores of lighting and beautifully decorated tables and chairs.  The venue we were dressing had a fantastic 30m long corridor that was ours for the decorating – we jumped straight on this using six separate draped entrances, placed right the way down to the main dining room.  With a base colour of red, each drape then had its own colour twist to add Bollywood glamour; purples, pinks, oranges and blues.  We enhanced the drapes with fiery flames, extravagant golden palm trees and one or two variety of elephant!  Purple and gold linen transformed the main room, accompanied by a wash of red light over the walls of the dining room and flickering table lanterns finished it off beautifully! Of course, what Bollywood event would be complete without Bollywood Dancers and Dohl Drummers? This was a fantastic event and we all hope there are more Bollywood themed events to come in 2013!

Two days after Bollywood…December hit with a bang! Swap Bollywood for Hollywood and this is how we began…..

We took our brand new Film Reel backdrops amongst many other props, theming and centrepieces and transformed a Reading venue into a Night in Hollywood!  The following week, was pretty much the same set up, in Kettering this time; a change in table centre, from Illuminated Martini Glasses to Frosted Domes and a few extra backdrops, saw this Hollywood themed Christmas Party swing from the rafters!

We have some fantastic new Circus Cannons which took pride of place at Ice Sheffield last week for their run of Christmas shows.  These, alongside traditional ticket booths, candy floss stalls, red and yellow ‘big top’ drapes and our plinthed Circus elephant looked great!  This last weekend has seen a real variety of themes, more Hollywood, a bit of classic Winter Wonderland, Circus Circus, Roaring 1920's and of course, we couldn’t get through December without mentioning the ever popular 007 theme!  On the run up to Christmas eve, we have a couple of events left…so we’re out to impress with more Winter theming, linen and table dressing. 

We all would like to wish everyone a VERY MERRY CHRISTMAS and a HAPPY NEW YEAR! Thanks for reading all of our bumpf over the past year…there sure will be more to come in 2013!

Christmas Spirit at SCP!

After another rather suave 007 themed party at the end of last week, we are now fully in the swing of Christmas Party season!  They are coming in thick and fast and we have a wide variety of themes going out all over the UK.  Popular themes for the next couple of weeks seem to be; Hollywood, Las Vegas and 007 – people just can’t get enough of all the lovely classics!!  We’ve got Winter Wonderland (our beautiful new winter backdrops are proving very popular!) and Circus installations over the festive period too…venues often like to theme out their event space for the whole month and sell a range of dates for themed Christmas Parties – splendid! The build team are in full flow, creating new, bespoke props and refurbing older ones! Regular cups of tea are in order to keep their spirits up…brrr! its cold in the warehouse!

In the next week we have a fantastic Bollywood themed event going on down in Nottingham! Think lavish draping, funky lighting and gorgeous linens (with one or two elephants thrown in the mix!).   Watch this space for updates and photos on this one!  We’ve also got more James Bond props out for a few different events next week; this has been a popular choice all year and doesn’t seem to be dying down at all – well, it’s one of our favourites so we’re not complaining!

Ice Cool and Hot Sophistication!

WOW! How’s this for a rundown of latest events?!!

Last week was super busy, and all rather last minute…we’ve had more James Bond Bonanza’s, swanky Hollywood launches and beautiful Winter Wonderland themed dinners.  We’ve spent lots of time on the M1 heading South to cater for events in the Central London area and further East in Maidstone and many a van has been filled to the brim!

The first winter event of the year was an absolute stunner!  A wash of ice blue lighting around all the walls, nooks and crannies created mood, ambience and a wintery atmosphere.  Our ‘Frosted Dome’ Table Centre Pieces work so well for this theme, allowing their colour change technology to be used in varying shades of blue, purple and white, adding depth to the theme.  Our brand new Winter Backdrops are simple yet striking and are a real eye catching feature for any stage or photo area.  We’ve a fair few Winter themed events coming up over the festive season so keep an eye out for photos and updates on the run up to Christmas.

James Bond wise, we’ve been here, there and everywhere with our Silhouette Panels, Backdrops and Look-a-Likes, and have participated in many a 007 themed event, party and ‘Skyfall’ premier.  By doing this, our viewing of the actual film was extremely delayed and it wasn’t until 2 weeks after it had been released did we have a gap in the schedule! But, my, my, my…it was worth the wait! What a fantastic film – watch this space…we’re on a roll with new ideas, and fresh enthusiasm for this quintessentially British phenomenon!

Hello November!

Halloween is almost over and we’ve participated in many a spine-tingling party.  Our fantastic performers were out in force on Saturday night at the beautiful Manchester Monastery; Our Fire Performer wowed guests on arrival whilst The Devil and Grim Reaper Living Statues lurked in the corridors; preparing to pounce on unsuspecting victims.  Feature props such as tombstones, cauldrons and gravestones were hidden in nooks and crannies and cleverly lit to create a spooky atmosphere.   

Last week also saw us involved in lots of 007 themed events, put on by clients in honour of ‘Skyfall’.  We’ve been at the O2 in London with Casino Tables, 007 Silhouettes, Security and Scanners and plenty of smiles.  We also brought Bond to Cambridge, Sheffield, Northampton and Stratford in the past week or two and we’re not quite done yet.

As the madness of October comes to a close, we are gearing up for the weekend ahead…the first weekend in November sees a mass of 007, Hollywood and Winter themed events scattered far and wide over the UK. 

The first winter event of the year is in Maidstone…we’re transforming a gorgeous country house into a magical winter scene.  Christmas is definitely coming folks…best get booking your festive fun soon!

A Mixed Bag….

October is usually renowned for being the weird quiet month before the Christmas rush…well not in 2012!! As this month sees the premier of the new James Bond film ‘Skyfall’; our 007 themed props have being going bonkers – of course the fact that it is also the 50^th anniversary year is adding to the excitement and getting everyone hyped up! Bond themed parties have always been popular but this year are setting the trend and leading the stakes in all things glamour and entertainment

Currently many of our Bond Props are residing in major Casino branches in Northampton and Stratford, we’ll be delivering more of these on Monday for their launch night.

This past weekend we have been all around the country – from Glasgow down to Plymouth, bringing entertainment from all corners.  We’ve been to Vegas, Hollywood and even back in time to the 1950’s – Grease style! We’ve got some great Danny & Sandy scene setters, which look perfect either side of our huge new American Diner Backdrop.  Oversized Chocolate Milkshakes made for great a great photo opportunity too!  Of course what weekend would be complete without many a Roulette wheel spinning and many a card dealt; our guests of all ages have loved every minute.

Our Martini Glass Table Centres have again been a popular choice this weekend.  They've been at 40th Birthday Parties, Showcases and 007 extravaganzas!

We’re planning our next moves for the next few weeks…more 007 themed events are on the cards along with all those Halloween Parties that seem to have crept upon us! Halloween is starting early this year as we dig out the Grim Reaper and dust off the Devil!

Christmas is bulging at the seams too…some of our themes are almost fully booked, so get in there fast if you’re needing some extra glam for the festivities!

Annual Launches and Prop Drops!

We’ve had a super busy week here at SCP HQ; our ever popular casino tables have been out in force and we returned for TIGI Haircare’s annual launch event over in Liverpool.  Last year they had a Candy theme so naturally our Willy Wonka theme lended itself nicely – this year….something altogether different and a little more retro!

The theme was ‘Cocktail’ (the movie) / Hawaiian Bar so think bright neon lights, cool slick colours and of course, one or two cocktails!! Our light pillars were the perfect feature, set on a green and pink colour scheme, and blending in well with our room up-lighting of pink, purple, green and blue.  Our Rum Barrels were the perfect photo opportunity set in amongst Palm Trees and more lighting.  We dressed up the guests with grass skirts and garlands and let them loose on Fishbowls full of Glow Sticks.  Once the room was dressed, the Cocktail Bar Tenders then went to work with their Cocktail master class! Flaring, juggling and plenty of tasting meant the evening kicked off in style, swiftly followed by dinner and dancing.  Our Illuminated Martini Glass Centrepieces couldn’t have been more suited to the event if they’d tried!!

This week we’ve started early…5am to be precise this morning!! One of our vans headed down all the way down the country at various locations dropping off endless 007 themed props and putting smiles on many a customers’ face!  This is the start of the October 007 rush – so hold on to your hats folks, there’s plenty more where this comes from!

We’re off up the country and down the country and all over the in between this coming weekend.  Grease is the Word down in Plymouth, the Bright Lights of Vegas are heading to Glasgow and there is casino entertainment galore all over Yorkshire! Phew…an update on all this next week!!

New York State of Mind!

We love a good party here at SCP HQ and we’ve been involved in some crackers this weekend.  Our Manhattan theming has been spread far and wide, high and low and our vans have certainly put in some miles!

We dressed a magnificent Black and White Themed Ball in Rotherham; a charity event all in aid of Rotherham Hospice.  Black and White linen neutralised the venue space adding glamour and continuing the theme throughout.  The Ball had a ‘Broadway’ twist to it so our brand new Manhattan backdrops made a stunning feature either side of the stage.  Cool and slick pink lighting created atmosphere, mood and ambience and our Statue of Liberty was ever present at the entrance.  Of course, what Black and White Ball would be complete without fabulous Black and White Stilt Walkers?!

Another team headed off down to Essex, dressed to impress with a van full of goodies.  A surprise birthday party full of glamour and sophistication with a rather modern focus.  Our City Scape Backdrop made its first appearance; a brand new prop and what a feature it is!! Fully illuminated in 2D and 3D sections it really does set the scene! Clever lighting lifted the venue – this event also wanted a pink colour scheme and feature props including our Giant Pink Shoe created fantastic photo opportunities.

So, the vans are unpacked and a new week has begun…we have lots to prepare over the next few weeks, including some spooky sets for Halloween, American Diner props for our, well…American Diner theme and some great new 007 props ready for all the Bond themed events going out in October! We’d best get cracking!

The name's Bond; James Bond!

This weekend has been Bond mad!! We’ve been to Wrexham (yes boys, that IS in Wales, despite what you may think!!).  Our team got a little frustrated with the old satellite navigation system when it wouldn’t find the postcode despite many minutes of effort!! One change of country soon had that fixed and they were on their way – seriously, you just can’t let them out!!

So once they arrived in sun shiny Wales, they were greeted with a fabulous marquee to dress for a Charity Ball.  Our Silhouette Panels and Striking Backdrop took pride of place amongst fabulous lighting effects, beautiful linen and great entertainment.  Daniel Craig’s dad and brother even made an appearance and Casino Tables went down a treat!

More 007 madness involved our fabulous Golden Gun prop and feature lighting taking pride of place at Hinckley Island Hotel in Leicestershire.  We’re doing lots of ‘prop drops’ at the moment, everything from a single prop to a full themed room set – we can create magic from everywhere!

At the moment 007 is firmly back in the warehouse until early October, and Manhattan Nights and New York theming are fully taking over in the popularity stakes.  This weekend we’re off round the country with Skyline Backdrops, Statue of Liberty’s, Giant Shoes and oodles of Lighting, Linen and Illuminated Table Centres – fabulous daahling!

We’ve finally seen some sunshine this week but back in the office we’re swamped with Christmas enquiries! Yes, that’s right ladies and gents…its coming!!

Movers and Shakers!

WOW! What a week! First off we’ve settled nicely into our new surroundings…brand new office, brand new warehouse! It’s all very swish here at SCP!

On Sunday we were exhibiting at Ice Sheffield for the ‘I Do Wedding Show’ and what a fantastic show it was…there was a real buzz about the place! We took the ever popular Casino table and dressed it up with a bit of Star Cloth and funky chequered dance floor.  We were a big hit, entertaining those lost looking grooms to be!

Tomorrow we are heading to Lincoln to get the Roulette wheel spinning and the Black Jack cards shuffled at one of our fun casinos before heading to Warwick for Friday’s event. We are excited to be holding a team building day for Michelin involving remote control cars and challenging courses, the lads have been acting like kids in a toy shop ‘testing’ out the new purchases! I hope the client is as enthusiastic as our team!

This week we have also confirmed a number of spooky Halloween events, all set to be sensationally spine-tingling with fantastic lighting effects and dark atmospheric props. Manchester had better watch out as we are letting our Fire performer, Grim Reaper Living Statue and Devil Living Statue loose, all on the same night!  October is filling up nicely courtesy of Mr Bond and the launch of ‘Skyfall’, so these Halloween events are just slotting in perfectly alongside.

A busy bank holiday!

This week we’ve had so many parcels delivered containing brand new backdrops and we’ve been working endlessly adding to our stock of feature props too!! We’ve introduced Giant Milkshakes, a Statue of Liberty and some immense 3D sections to complement our beautiful Manhattan Skyline; A fantastic backdrop for all of those slick and cool events!  There are lots more props and new event ideas in the pipeline too…can you tell we’re excited?!!!

So event wise, 007 has been out in force again this weekend…the theme was present at a lovely wedding over in Worcester for a ‘Bond’ mad couple.  Our swanky Silhouettes graced the casino area, creating a real suave gambling den for all the guests to enjoy.  Beautiful linen and floral table centres softened the edges in the main dining room, and the white starlit dance floor was the perfect setting for dancing the night away in style.

Whilst this gorgeous wedding and others were happening this weekend, our little workshop elves have been extremely busy moving our premises.  We’re only off down the road but 17 van loads, 30 cups of tea, 4 packets of hobnobs and 1 tray of lasagne later and we’re finally in! A great new warehouse with space for all our props and a brand new office which will hopefully *crosses fingers* be warmer than the last!

Next week we are entertaining the masses at Lincoln University and have a rather intriguing team building exercise in the Midlands…you’ll have to check back next week to find out more about this!

It’s only the greatest show on earth….

Hold on to your hats people…SCP are exhibiting at this years I Do Wedding Show at Ice Sheffield!  The perfect opportunity for you to see us in action and observe some great ideas for your upcoming wedding or event!

Wedding shows can often be tedious and daunting for brides and grooms; here’s a little insider knowledge…exhibitors are just as nervous! Most aren’t there for the hard sell, they simply want to share their wares and ideas with you and if you like them and want to book then that is fantastic! So just come along and have a chat – we don’t bite!  Kids even get in free!  There will be lots of lovely things to look at, think about and talk about for your special day from all over South Yorkshire and we’ll be there ready to talk through any questions or ideas you may have, pass on our experience and spread the inspiration!

We’ll be the ones wearing big huge smiles and we may even have tempting treats on the stand…now if that doesn’t entice you I don’t know what will – everyone loves a sweet treat J !!

Grease is the Word....

Moving on from the bright lights of New York, and back in time to the 1950’s! We’ve invested in some great new props for our American Diner theme.

The Student Union of Plymouth are reliving their high school days (not that far back in reality!!) with this fun, upbeat theme! We’re making some fantastic giant Strawberry & Chocolate Milkshake Props (great for Willy Wonka too) for their upcoming event which will make a great feature for the stage area and in and around our Diner Dance Floor.  The Grease themed car prop is a perfect photo opportunity and is sure to cause a stir on the night – although, it is minus a backseat – no funny business on this Grease themed road-trip!

Our Halloween theme is getting a great string of outings this year - a rare theme for us as it is only of use to us once annually.  We’ve almost booked up for the weekend around Halloween and are already collecting cobwebs and preparing to raise Grim from the Graveyard.

Two very contrasting themes for October with a whole load of 007 thrown into the mix! 
Blimey….it will be Christmas before we know it!! Speaking of the festive season, we are booking up fast for this too…Wonka and his team of Oompa Loompas are a popular choice along with Classic Hollywood, Las Vegas and Roaring 20’s.

Bright Lights & the Big City!

You’ve guessed it – our Manhattan theme is getting a good run of events at the moment and we are creating some magnificent new props!!!

Our brand new Illuminated Skyline Feature Backdrop is going to be a stunner! 48ft Long in its entirety but can be segmented off to create sections of skyline in different areas of a venue.  Illuminated in a slick purple or cool white depending on the nature your event; this backdrop is perfect for Manhattan Nights, New York events or Las Vegas Extravaganzas!

Our very grand 7ft tall Statue of Liberty is looking lovely, due for a couple of outings in the next few weeks and our funky Giant Pink Shoe is also ready to rock; diamantes polished and heel buffed! Fancy posing for a photo in the Shoe? No problem – check out Hannah in this photo….

Illumination and slick props are very Manhattan…but we’re also planning a more New York ‘esque’ event.  You may think well, what’s the difference?  Think, less Sex and the City and more New York Street Scene!  We’re doing wonders with feature backdrops, to incorporate famous landmarks from the city, including Brooklyn Bridge, Empire State and the Chrysler Building. We’ll be working our magic with Black and White Linen and Illuminated White FeatherPlume Table Centres as well as bringing along our fabulous Black and White Stilt Walkers!  Our lovely lamp posts will be making an appearance at this event and we’ll string them with fairy lights to add a bit of glamour.

Of course, what New York / Manhattan Themed Event would be complete without our rather striking Black and White Dance Floor?  Superb for any event actually!!!

Brand New Theme!!!

Fridays’ Arabian event was a stunner from all angles and seems to be a popular choice this year! 

Entering through our Curtained Entrance and up our Red Carpet, guests were transported into our Arabian hideaway…we used a wash of warm lighting to create ambience; set on oranges, yellows and reds.  We also used incense to really bring the theme to life.  An Arabian treat for all sensory organs!

Our lavish coloured drapes and luxurious cushions and pouffes created a chill-out area for the guests, allowing everyone to kick back and relax or if they wished, dance the night away on our brand spanking new Black and White Dance Floor – a great choice of dance floor for all occasions; very glamorous!

Our stunning authentic candlelit lanterns were the feature on each table and they looked beautiful – a real eye catching centrepiece! They are all completely unique and hand decorated in reds, blues and greens – we love these here at SCP, we’ll have to watch they don’t go walkabout for living room and bedroom décor!

To add a little twist and something a bit different we took our Snake Charmer and Henna Artist to entertain the guests and give them the real Arabian experience.  The ‘baby’ snake kept us all on our toes and petrified one or two of our own staff – hey, we’ll try anything once!!! New Theme Alert!!!!

Howdy Pard’ners! That’s right, we’ve been down in the Wild West this weekend and my, what a show we put on! From Giant Cactii and our fabulous Saloon Bar to our unique hand-painted and simply stunning backdrop we pulled out all the stops to make sure this surprise birthday party was a one never to forget!

Down in the depths of Watford, we decked out the chosen venue, creating an authentic looking saloon bar hideaway, using many a Whiskey Barrel and Cartwheel! The guests donned their chaps and their cowboy boots and prepared to line dance the night away thoroughly enjoying themselves all the while.

We also created a gorgeous Alice in Wonderland Enchanted Entrance over in Leeds which wowed the guests and left the children speechless! We literally can do anything with themed props – from single prop hire, right the way through to full themed room sets; mad I know!

The workshop and design team have been super busy the last few days, preparing for our next event.  This one is a new theme for us so we’re very excited to get cracking and make the room look beautiful!  Arabian Nights is on the cards, so we have stunning ornate lanterns, huge floor cushions and pouffes and metres and metres of jewel coloured draping all ready for our trip to Cheltenham later this week.  Keep your eyes peeled for pictures and insights into this luxurious theme!

Table Centres and the Caribbean!

Wow! What a weekend – we have been busy bees!  Not only has our fantastic 007 theme been out in force, we done some amazing things with Table Centres and entertained many a guest on our Casino Tables. 

Weymouth was the biggie of the weekend and played host to 57, yes 57 of our stunning illuminated table centres. Set on trestle tables, the client wanted the height of our Martini Glasses and the cool edge of our Frosted Domes – a mix and match it was and they looked great!  Teamed with fancy star cloth, linen and a fantastic live Band, this event really did go with a bang!

Whilst all this was happening on the South Coast, 007 was playing out in Grismby, Halifax, Basingstoke and Dartford! Our Silhouettes and backdrop took pride of place in a beautiful marquee alongside yet more linen, table centres and entertainment. We have a brand new silhouette in the form of Vesper Lynd, and she looks fantastic when illuminated and stood next to Daniel Craig!

On Sunday, we took many of our Caribbean props to a venue in Sheffield – nothing like trying to brighten up this awful weather with the hope of sunshine! El Benny’s Beach Hut impressed, surrounded by Rum Barrels and driftwood and was the perfect photo opportunity for all guests.

Not only all that lot…here’s a picture of our Masquerade Stilt Walkers looking beautiful at an event in Reading last week.  These are a very popular pair, and never fail to impress with their elegance and striking costumes.

So, this week coming is slightly more relaxed – although today we’re off to Surrey to entertain a birthday boy and a big fan of 007! The team are setting off as we speak….good luck guys!

Illuminations!

The event of the week this week was certainly when our magnificent illuminated furniture featured at a 30^th Birthday Party in Sheffield.  The brief from the birthday boy was to supply room dressing and entertainment of a high class to make the venue look cool, slick and fashionable. 

The crew set off with a van full of goodies and looking forward to the day ahead! Our 8ft Tall Light Pillars took pride of place alongside our Star Cloth Backdrop which framed the fantastic band.  Lighting galore, created a cool ambience around the room, and our illuminated Poseur Tables were the perfect place to chill with a cocktail or two.

Later in the evening once the guests had had their evening meal, we opened up the casino tables and we were ready to rock! Always proving a popular entertainment option, the tables didn’t fail to impress and were packed all night!

Tips and Trade Secrets!

Fun Casino means just that ‘FUN’! Steel City Promotions have a stock of over 25 tables, all immaculately finished with a burgundy colour scheme.  We have Roulette, Black Jack, Poker, Wheel of Fortune and Dice. All very different in their own right and all extremely popular!

If you’re struggling to think when you would have a casino or where indeed you would put it, the answer is easy! We fit into almost any small space, and are perfect for any event; wedding, corporate event, private party – the list is endless! The real beauty of it is….anyone of any age can play!! We need no gambling license as there is no real money involved – Brilliant!


Of course, there is the option of raising money for charity - this is easy peasy too!! The best way to go about this is, after choosing your charity, try and get a sponsor for the tables.  This way, the tables are completely paid for and the money raised on the night can go straight to the charity.  £1 or 50p per chip usually works very well and if you put up great prizes for the winner, there is a good incentive for your guests to spend more money! A recent charity event for ‘Battens Disease’ saw us raise £5000 for charity over 4 casino tables.

Secret Missions and Birthday Bashes!!

We’re having a ball this week at SCP HQ!! After the delights of the Alice in Wonderland Tea Party last week, this weekend just gone we went from Mad Hatter crazy to suave and sophisticated 007.

Our Fantastic Backlit Backdrop took pride of place in Cutlers Hall, Sheffield for a rather swanky 21^st Birthday Party. We decked out the main ballroom with props, linen and lighting galore and entertained the 150 plus guests in our separate casino area. Nothing spared for the birthday boy, even Sean and Daniel made and appearance, and what a night it was! Check out those lovely Martini Glasses – very in keeping with the theme!

We’re swinging merrily back over to the joys of Alice and her Wonderland this weekend as we deliver our unusual, unique and absolutely fabulous table centres and more to a venue in Henley on Thames.  Watch this space for photos of the event.

Mad Hatters Tea Party with a unique twist!

Alice in Wonderland is one of the most popular themes we produce.  From Mad Hatters Tea Party’s to University Proms and even Themed Weddings – this theme does it all and appeals to all ages!  This Jubilee weekend, saw us head off down to London with a van full of Toadstools, Giant Cupcakes and Grass Seating and our Bouncing Bunnies in tow.

The event was for a charity ‘Camp Simcha’ – they work with children suffering from life threatening illnesses, improving quality of life. 
A huge marquee was in place at a house in North London specifically for a Bar Mitzvah over the bank holiday weekend.  This was then kept left up so the charity could use it for their Alice in Wonderland party for the children and their siblings and carers!  This was the perfect setting for all of our props; we created a chill-out area without novelty seating and a games area with a couple of our Alice in Wonderland Crazy Golf Holes! Our Giant Cupcake, Chess Pieces and Mad Hatter’s Hat were feature props in nooks and crannies around the marquee. 

Our Bouncing Bunnies did us proud as usual; they have oodles of energy and the children loved them! Story Teller Alice was also present and entertained with balloons, magic and many a story.

All in all, a really heartfelt event, full of love and laughter!!
